Prince William has announced that the 2025 Earthshot Prize Awards will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, marking the first time the event will take place in South America. Scheduled for November, the ceremony will coincide with Brazil's hosting of the COP30 UN climate change summit.

The Earthshot Prize, established by Prince William in 2020, aims to identify and support innovative solutions to environmental challenges. Each year, five winners receive £1 million to advance their projects in categories such as Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World, and Fix Our Climate.

In a statement, Prince William highlighted Brazil's significance, noting, "As we bring The Earthshot Prize to Brazil, a nation rich in biodiversity and environmental innovation, we are seeing fresh momentum for new ideas to create healthier and safer ways to live our lives."

The announcement was accompanied by a video featuring notable Earthshot supporters, including David Beckham, Cate Blanchett, and Brazilian football legend Cafu, showing the global collaboration and support for the initiative.

This event marks the midpoint of the Earthshot decade, reflecting the initiative's ongoing commitment to fostering environmental innovation worldwide. The selection of Rio de Janeiro as the host city emphasizes the importance of Brazil's ecosystems and the global focus on environmental solutions. This aligns with Brazil hosting the COP30 UN climate summit, emphasizing the nation's rich biodiversity and commitment to environmental innovation.
